There is no doubt that Pakistan is going through the worst crisis of its 63 year old history. People are leaving the country and the youth is disappointed. People are not getting jobs no matter how much qualified they are. The whole system has gone corrupt but have you ever asked yourself, who will take care of this country if everyone leaves? Who will bring this country out of this darkness? I am a sole believer of the fact that situations, no matter how good or bad they are, do not last for a long time. They may not change abruptly but there is always a way out.
Freelancing has now reached its peak and people all over the world are now leaving their day jobs and are working from the comfort of their homes. This is the new way to work and you no longer need to go out and find jobs and work 8 hours a day in the office. It is a prediction that office environment will be entirely different at the end of this decade and 70% of the businesses will be operating online. Most of the Multi National Corporations (MNCs) have already outsourced some of their departments to low cost countries and some organizations hire software developers and designers from low cost countries on continuous basis. It will be better for you to familiarize yourself with this new way to work for your own good. I have been asked a question many times that “is freelancing in Pakistan even possible?”
I do know that we have electricity problems but I always see the positive side of it. We do have electricity 14 to 16 hours a day and it is enough to do the work at home. My answer to this question is always YES. Freelancing in Pakistan is possible and a lot of people including me are making full time income out of it. You can instantly become a seller of the skills that you possess and there will be thousands of people willing to buy your services. You will not have to worry about pleasing your boss, leaving your home for the work place and spend money on travel and clothing.
Getting started online may be a hard part for you but you can take some help and ask for guidance from the people who are already doing jobs or running businesses online. Lately, I have seen a lot of people offering freelance writing jobs in Pakistan so you can start from there as a beginner. No matter what sort of education or degree you possess, you will find hundreds of jobs online and they will range from complex programming of websites to simple data entry tasks. Join some freelance site like Elance.com and Freelancer.com today and start earning money. You can also buy my Freelance course and can start making money online instantly.

I respect your motivation, and so I will share a carefully protected formula with you: after many setbacks at earning money online, I have stumbled across a technique that made me $15,000.00 in just 24 hours.
There are techniques to make such money online but you need to do hell lot of investment first. I am an internet marketer myself and there is not ‘get rich quick’ method that works.
hey usman love your site, thank you for giving me freelancing tips and the forums you told me about are really earning me enough. now i don’t have to ask my parents for money its such a good feeling. thanx alot buddy that course did wonders for me. God Bless

Hi, I am a freelance writer from Jhelum.
Well, unfortunately, gone are the days when we used to have electricity for 14 hours a day and the situation is getting worse. The lowest paid community of freelancers belongs to Pakistan
NO PayPal, NO electricity, and almost no opportunities.
I am not a pessimist, but that’s true. We are sucking at those jobs that American and European freelancers reject!
Hi NextGen,
Nice to see your comment on my blog. I agree and disagree with you at the same time.
1. We do have electricity problems, agreed, but you are doing business online right? As far as I know, you have to have the best tools if you really mean business.
2. We suck at the gigs that Europeans or Americans refuse to pick, disagreed. I don’t know where you go to find work but me and a lot of my fellow freelancers from Pakistan win jobs fair and square wherever we bid.
3. No Opportunities, disagreed. I get more work than I can handle, I outsource most of it despite having a huge team but still at times I have to refuse my clients.
4. No PayPal, agreed, it should be in Pakistan as well. There are other options you can go for like moneybookers and I am sure there will be more options as well.
Great article for developres… Thanks for sharing..
Yes it is Possible really.

Hi
I want to work on freelancer.com but i don’t know how to open an account and how can i work on freelancer i am just working deta entry jobs please help me and give me some tips to do work.
Hi
Freelancer.com is good for beginners and you can find lots of data entry jobs there too. Opening an account on the site is easy but you will have to verify your account. Simpy go to the site and signup. You will get a verification email, click on the link you will be good to go.
I’m a graduate with a bachelors degree in “Telecommunications and Networks”. However, I wanted to pursue other career paths. Here is a list of things I taught myself over the years.
-3d artist (3d Studio Max)
-Data entry specialist
-Musician
-Web designing
-Writing and content development
I haven’t found any job for over 3 years now. The only writing jobs I find pay me 6000 a month or a max 10,000 a month. In a country where literacy is so low it’s amazing that there’s no demand or respect for a writer. A freaking driver gets paid 12k a month now.
My dad is retired and we’re facing serious money issues. Nowadays I can’t even look into this eyes while greeting him. I feel shame in being such a worthless son. If only I could show him of how much I’ve tried.
Thoughts of suicide stay with me every now and then. My faith and sanity have left me as well.
The last job I found wanted me to agree to these terms:
1. 9-9 job (Yes that’s a fucking from-morning-to-night job)
2. Only Sunday off
3. Hired on a spot in the advertisment department but can “should” work with writing/design department as well.
4. Pay = 10k a month.
So much rejection, so much foul play, so much hatred… I’ve reached to a state where I think I wouldnt even be able to do a house maid job.
why I’m blabbering here you ask?
It’s because I read this line “have you ever asked yourself, who will take care of this country if everyone leaves?”
I honestly have no hope for this country.
Well, I am not surprised at all to read this comment. I have been through all this myself. I am a graduate too, in fact I have a Masters degree but I never found a job either. This was the whole point of writing this article. Look inside and see what you are capable of and do what you are capable of doing. become a seller of skills rather than wasting your skills for others.
Don’t blame this country as it has got nothing to do with your misfortune. Blame the system. It is not a political blog so I will not discuss it further. But one thing I want to tell you, I applied for a hell lot of jobs and I was rejected every single time. The problem was in me, I was never a job material. I was an entrepreneur and since I found what I am capable of doing, I never bothered to look for a job.
Think about it and utilize your skills. If you are a 3D artist, you can make hell lot of money and I mean it.
Cheers

Very inspiring article Usman i am a new freelancer and join freelancer.com for a long time but don’t take it seriously then i got a job of junior seo in an IT firm where i get very minimum income but i only decide to do that job for gain some experience when i go to office i listen my seniors discussing about some projects and bids then i thought they also get work from some online websites and hiring peoples like me and giving these task to us and pay a very less of that why not i try myself and Bid some projects. Then i bids on Some Seo projects and believe me after some time i get success in one Seo project and now working on it. Your article give me more hope to work more as freelancer but the problem is i don’t know some more best freelancing website where i bids on project and also get payment easily in Pakistan. And one more favor from you side give me some suggestion how to receive payment from freelancer.com website in Pakistan. Send me some details in my email if you have some time.
the article draws a very true picture, The only catch in this field is not to become a small fish which gets eaten by the bigger fish
Aim higher, and try to leech on the main source where all the work originates from. Local writing sourcing setups will just use you badly !! but yea they aren’t a bad option just to know what is happening and how its done
It’s undoubtedly possible. The author is right on the subject. Based on my own experience, with freelancing, you can make equivalent of, or much more than a usual locally offered salary for your skills if your skills fit, (you can try learning something new as well that fits freelancing and is in demand).
I am a freelancer from Karachi. I have worked on Guru.com and Freelancer.com.
I would like to mention few very IMPORTANT things to consider,
- It is not easy to jump right into it and try to expect huge sums (but you could get lucky).
- You have to try constantly (even for weeks/months) & be very patient if you are not getting any work (specially for first time). Use your time to bid on various sites, communicate clearly.
- Try to maintain 100% positive feedback given to you by clients on projects,
- Play by the rules(MUST take care and not violate ToS of freelancing sites) otherwise you may lose everything (your account). Again, must read terms & conditions of the site VERY IMPORTANT.
There is a lot more.. but there are websites/articles about this already that can help you out. If you do it right, you are going to be very busy with freelancing within a year or two.
This should be a very good thing for unemployed people. You select your working hours, work only few hours a day, you make money. So before giving up on everything, try to make effort and spend few hours on major freelancing websites. It’s all it takes.
AOA
Apart from elance & freelancer, you may also try odesk.com, vworker.com, guru.com, peopleperhour.com,scriptlance.com & getacoder.com

Since Paypal is not an option for getting paid in Pakistan, what other options do we have? Please put them in order of reliability (trustworthiness) . Also, i’m new to this so can these other options be used via my own website via a button (like Paypal)?
Sincerely,
Rohail

very nice article on freelancing. Actually in Pakistan people are unaware of freelancing. people are looking for jobs and abusiveness and other tough works. but fact is that freelancing is also a way of earning money by staying at home.
Nice article. I believe some freelancers from are doing good. But I can’t believe still some area of Pakistan getting power only for 14- 16 hrs!!! Hope Pakistan will do more better in future. Any way, Keep it up….
